The Pony Club is a recognised youth organisation for those interested in horses and riding.

Objective

To "encourage young people to ride and to learn all sports connected with horses and riding". To provide instruction in horsemastership and to instil in members the proper care of their animals. To promote the highest ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty, thereby cultivating strength of character and self-discipline.

Membership

Membership is open to anyone over the age of 7 years and under 21 years.

Organisation

The Hong Kong Pony Club, which is affiliated to the 'The Pony Club', UK. is administered by a District Commissioner and assisted by a committee. The Hong Kong Pony Club was first formed in 1974. It was registered as and 'Exempted Society' and became affiliated to The Hong Kong Equestrian Federation.

What it does

A variety of activities are organised throughout the year and include Working rallies at various riding schools, where either equitation, care of tack or horse management is given. An annual camp is arranged, providing an opportunity for members to receive concentrated instruction and to take charge of a horse/pony. These camps are divided into Junior/Senior dependent on age and experience and are of 3-4 days duration.

Shows, games, Polocrosse and other events occur on a regular basis.

Efficiency Certificates are awarded and there are seven standards. Beginning with the introductory D Test followed by D+, C, C+, B, H and for those that are highly motivated, the A level. Every member is encouraged to try and obtain these certificates, which are recognition of ability and progress.

What you need

The rules of the Pony Club require that members shall wear a reinforced riding hat minimum standard BS4472 but recommend for very best protection PAS 0105. The dress for shows is beige jodhpurs, boots, white shirt and the official club tie. For other functions a club 'T' shirt/sweatshirt may be worn. These items can be purchased from the secretary.
